The Alliance urges pest control professionals to join forces in raising awareness around the dangerous health threats ticks pose, importance of early detection and prevention
As temperatures warm and days get longer, consumers will inevitably be spending more time outdoors, which means peak tick season is around the corner. The Professional Pest Management Alliance is urging the pest control industry to come together during Tick Awareness Week (May 3-9, 2026) to make Americans aware of the serious illnesses these parasitic pests can transmit, the importance of prevention and when to call in a professional pest control.
“People are already enjoying the nice weather outside, and this activity will only continue to heighten as we enter the summer months,” said Alliance Executive Director Jim Fredericks. “Tick Awareness Week is a critical opportunity for our industry to inform consumers about the risks, signs and steps one can take to protect their family and pets this season against ticks and the important role the professional pest control industry plays in tick management.”
Tick activity is expanding into more regions and is beginning earlier than usual due to an increase in warm, moist conditions across the country. This can contribute to the rise in tick-borne illnesses we’ve seen in recent years. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), there are about 475,000 cases of Lyme disease every year, which is only one of the many illnesses transmitted by ticks, alongside Rocky Mountain spotted fever, alpha-gal syndrome and more.
Now is the time to empower consumers to identify habitats conducive for tick activity and perform a proper tick check after spending time outdoors. The Alliance is calling all pest control companies to help spread the word this Tick Awareness Week by:
· Sharing tick-focused content throughout the week and adding #TickAwarenessWeek to join the broader discussion and share useful information on risks, prevention and treatment with consumers.
· Resharing content from @PestWorld on Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, and YouTube and @PestWorldOfficial on Instagram to reinforce the importance of tick education.
· Checking out the Tick Awareness Week marketing toolkit on AllianceMainframe.org, which is available to Mainframe subscribers and includes customizable media resources, visual assets and more.
